Creating a Social Links Page in Squarespace 7.1

A social links page, sometimes referred to as an Instagram Links or Link in Bio page, is a stylish and strategic landing page designed to present your key social links in one place. You may have explored third-party platforms such as Linktree, which is a great solution for many people. But, if you have an existing website, why not leverage it’s full potential? In this post, we’ll uncover the perks of hosting your social links page directly on your site and take a step-by-step journey into creating your own in Squarespace 7.1.

Why Use Your Existing Website for a Social Links Page

01/ On Brand

If you have an existing Squarespace website, the good news is that your brand logo, colours, and fonts are already set up in your site settings. This makes it a breeze to create a stylish social links page that perfectly aligns with your brand – quick, easy, and uniquely yours!

02/ Cost Effective + Flexible customisation

While platforms such as Linktree may provide a free version, unlocking additional customisation options—like incorporating your unique branding, adding extra links, or custom graphics—often comes with a price tag. If you're already investing in your website, why not make the most of it? Save your pennies and utilise your existing site to host your social links page—it comes with no extra cost and offers complete flexibility for customisations, aligning with your design vision!

03/ Drive Traffic to your Site

Hosting your social links page on your website isn't just about links; it's a strategic move. Directing traffic to your own domain instead of a third-party site not only boosts your site's visibility but also ensures that every click contributes to growing your online presence.

04/Enhanced user experience

By seamlessly integrating your social links page with your existing website, you provide visitors with a cohesive and engaging journey. No more bouncing between platforms—just a smooth, uninterrupted exploration of your carefully curated content, reflecting the sophistication that defines your brand.

Let’s Create a Social Links Page in Squarespace 7.1

Setting Up the Page

Step 1: In the backend of your existing Squarespace website, navigate to Pages. Select the ‘+’ icon under the Not Linked section to add a new page.

Step 2: Select the ‘Blank Page’ option then name your page (e.g. Social Links).

Step 3: Click on the cog icon to open up the page settings.

Step 4: Under the General section, check the Page Title, Navigation Title, and most importantly, the URL slug. It’s a good idea to make the URL short, simple, and relevant (e.g. /social-links).

Step 5: Under the SEO section, scroll and make sure to toggle on the ‘Hide Page from Search Results’ option. This is to avoid visitors landing on this page accidentally while browsing Google for example.

Removing the Header and Footer

While this step is entirely optional, I generally like to remove the header and footer from social links pages to refine the appearance and user navigation. To remove the header and footer on this page only:

  • Under the Advanced section, paste the below code in the Page Header Code Injection.

<style>

.header, #footer-sections {display:none!important;}

</style>

  • Make sure to click ‘Save’ to keep your changes.

Customising your Social Links Page

Now, let’s get into customising what’s on the actual page.

  • In Edit mode, add a new section and select the background colour like you normally would.

  • Add whichever blocks you’d like on your social links page. If you’d like to keep it nice and simple, an Image block and some Button blocks are a great start. You could add a Social Links block (not to be confused with the social links page we’re creating) and maybe a Text block if you like. The amazing part is you can incorporate any blocks you wish!

  • Important: Make sure to edit the page in mobile view as well as your visitors will land on this page from a mobile device.

The Final Steps

  • Double-check the links in your Button blocks and Social Links block

  • Paste your Social Links page URL into your Instagram bio
